a light in the holler

A Light In The Holler is an ongoing series of landscape photographs exploring contemporary notions of engagement with the outdoors through long exposures. The majority of our experiences with wild spaces are overly prescribed through combinations of hiking trails and scenic overlooks. By rejecting these accessible tracts and sweeping vistas, these images challenge expectations in depictions of the natural world. All of the photographs are exposed over the course of 8 minutes 19 seconds, roughly the amount of time it takes for a photon of light to travel from the sun to the earth. This length of time is utilized intentionally, with an effort to illustrate that all experiences with the landscape are a confluence of the past and the present.
