dead reckoning

dead reckoning (noun): the process by which one’s present position is determined based upon a projected course from a previously known location and the passage of time.

Dead Reckoning is an ongoing series of lens and paper based works exploring notions of place and existence through a temporal structure. The locations used in the creation of the work are encountered delicately and purposefully, with paths followed or forged, and then traced and retraced to a point of personal awareness. Through slow, deliberate documentation, foreign lands transform into the familiar. This perceptual change occurs not in the landscape, but in the self.
